BROADCAST JOURNALIST
Nicole Sommavilla
I want my work to improve the community...

to unite rather than divide...

and to give a voice to people who feel like they have none.
Nicole Sommavilla
I am the morning and noon anchor at NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse, New York. You can catch me from 4:30 to 7 weekday mornings and then again at noon.

I went into journalism because I have a strong passion for writing and storytelling. The most rewarding part of my job is not just meeting people in my community and making a connection with them, it's making a difference along the way. My love for writing and my hunger to reach people and find the truth is what fuels my fire. I work daily to make a difference by giving a voice to those who have none, and hopefully, righting some wrongs along the way.

Before joining the NewsChannel 9 team I worked as a freelance reporter at News 12 Westchester. Prior to that, I was the evening anchor and a reporter for WSNN, The Suncoast News Network in Sarasota, Florida.

During my time at WSNN, I was the lead medical reporter, sharing my stories with our coverage partner WFLA in Tampa as well as NBC News Channel; making them accessible to any NBC affiliate in the nation with some of my stories airing on NBC5 in Chicago and NBC4 in New York.

I graduated from Ithaca College in May 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Television-Radio and a minor in Integrated Marketing Communications. I'm currently in school again. This time, for nutrition, another passion of mine that I get to explore with weekly Wellness Wednesday segments.

When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and getting active. You can often catch me on a Peloton bike or running and walking with my sweet dog and favorite adventure partner, Dakota.
I am very active on social media. Look me up on Twitter and Instagram! If you see me around, say hi!
